Stingrays and Cicadas

Here is another random update from me. Working at the zoo has been so wonderful. I am mainly over in the Children's Zoo, and I am currently working the native run. That means I tend to the reindeer, llamas, birds of prey, raccoons, a possum, groundhogs, geese, ducks, pigs, goats, and dogs. There are other animals i work with too, but these are what I'm doing for the time being. i started the internship with horses, donkeys, sheep and pigeons. I have to say that what I am doing now is a lot more interesting, but much more work.

I am also doing a lot of the keeper chats when I get the chance. The one I do the most is the goat milking, and I am either doing the milking, or I am narrating to the public how everything works. I also spend time in Hammill holding little cute animals for kids to come and pet. I love my job. There is a chance i will be staying at the zoo until December as a real zookeeper, and that would just be wonderful. I know for sure though that I have a job waiting for me there starting in March. It would be seasonal, and i would just work some seasonal jobs in the zoo until i am offered a full time one. That's just the way it works, and I'm okay with that.

Kyle just got a job in Lombard that he is pretty excited about. That means that we will be moving to this area in the western suburbs of Chicago once we're married. It's not really what i would call my dream place to live, but it's close to the zoo where i can get a great start in this new career direction. Everyone has to start somewhere.

If I get a camera and if i have the ability to get pictures on here, I may do that. But I know when I do happen to get some photos at work, they are going to go straight up on facebook, so you can keep an eye out for that on there if you like. I hope everone is well, and I'll probably leave another update in a few months or so, or whenever the next big thing in my life happens.

I haven't used xanga in months, and there is a lot of new fangled crap on the side telling me stuff I don't really care about. But I do care about my friends, so here's a quick update.

I will be at Brookfield Zoo this summer. I'll be doing a zookeeping internship in the Hammill Family area, so that means I'll be working with lemurs, armadillos, birds of prey, farm animals, skunks, groundhogs, racoons, pets, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I was offered 3 other (more cool sounding) internships with other animals, but I chose this one so I could work with the public.

The wedding is getting closer, about 5 months away now. Kyle just got a great job in Rockford, so we will see where we end up by the time we're married. I am going to try and get a job at the zoo when I'm done, so that would be best. Then I guess we would just end up living in the Rockford area. If not, we are both going to try to get work in Milwaukee or something. It has a lot of opportunities for us in what we want to do, including the possibility of my finishing another major in zoology.

Everything is pretty much up in the air right now. I'm finally ok with that after a bunch of prayer. Well, I hope everyone is well. I still read people's xangas...even if there is no proof of it. I have them emailed to me.

Last night, I rearranged my room. I thought it was just a good thing to do, just to get my bed away from the window in the cold winter. But there is this crazy feeling that comes with my rearranged room. I can't describe it. All of a sudden, it's like my whole life is brand new! I can't be bored anymore, and I even feel like the mundane tasks I do in my room are fun and exciting.

I think I need to get out more.

I just wanted to write to let everyone know that I still use xanga. I may not update anymore, but I read all of your entries in the daily emails I get. I guess I can fill you in a little bit...

I'm sure you know by now that Kyle and I are engaged to be married. It's in about 9 months now, and we have some of the basic things booked, but I am putting off the rest because I'm really not motivated to do it yet.

After we are married, we will be moving to Carbondale, Illinois where I will be finishing a second major in zoology. Kyle will get a job down there after he finishes his internship, so he will look for an apartment sometime this summer.

I have applied for an internship this summer that I am really praying for. I don't have a clue what the chances are that I would get it, but I think the only reason I wouldn't is just because of the amount of peope that would be applying for it. It is a zookeeping internship at the Brookfield zoo. While I really want it, I know that if I don't get it, there will be plenty of other opportunities out there another time.

I'm still working at WC Petty in the computer lab, and it is a very dull, monotonous job. I hope it picks up more this semester...but at least the kids are real cute and entertaining.

In other news, I just bought my first very own pair of skis. I have rented skis my whole life, but it has always been my favorite winter hobby. I am hoping to make it a much bigger part of my life, and we are already planning a few trips to Wilmot, Cascade, and even a week-long trip to Copper Mountain in Colorado in the spring. MMMMMmmmmm. Goodnight my friends!

Today, I set up my desk and walls in my new lab. It's hard to believe I have my own classroom in the school I first went to when I moved to Antioch. It feels a little silly.

A lot of the teachers are still there that I had, and they claim to remember me, but I don't believe half of them. It's also weird to be calling these people by their first names, when it doesn't seem too long ago that I was being yelled at by one of them for running in the hallways.

Life does some really weird things, and it takes some rediculous turns. I never thought I would crave so much the life I had 10 years ago, but looking back, it was some kind of paradise that I won't get back til the day I die.
